He was officially appointed as the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation (TNTBESC)by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The ceremony at Chennai’s Secretariat was attended by Education Minister Rajmohan, and the official gazette order, signed by School Education Secretary Chandramohan, conferred a three-year term on Mani. This position – sometimes described in Tamil media as “Textbook Board Chief” – is powerful in the realm of school education. The TN Textbook Corporation is responsible for printing, purchasing and distributing all government school textbooks for the state. Mani officially succeeds Dr. I. Leonie (Ilangovan Leonie), a veteran DMK educationist who held the post under the previous administration.
